Luminate Legal, PLLC is a solo practice founded by Attorney Jhilam Sanyal.
Jhilam Sanyal
Founder and Principal Attorney
I studied law to become an estate planner, drawn to the deeply human side of helping people navigate life’s joys, curve balls, and natural transitions. But it is my own journey of navigating chronic illness, medical emergencies, being an only child of aging parents, choosing an intentional life beyond traditional family structures, and undergoing profound personal and spiritual healing that called me back to this work from a career in regulatory compliance. I understand how thoughtful planning can reflect the many ways people live, connect, and define family, and honor the choices that shape modern lives. My experience in high-stakes regulatory compliance environments, including anti-money laundering and OFAC, shapes how I practice law today: with clarity, precision, and dedication to making complex legal concepts understandable. In addition to traditional estate planning, I am one of the few attorneys at the intersection of estate planning and psychedelic law. Psychedelics remain federally prohibited, with varying state-level regulations. This legally complex and evolving area is increasingly relevant as psychedelics reemerge as tools for mental health, palliative and end-of-life care, and sincere spiritual practice. I can support attorneys navigating these complex issues in their practices, and guide individuals in documenting wishes that honor their values within the bounds of the law.
